Stockholm

So the start of the honeymoon the weather could not have been better. Had a great view of the Fjords on the way in.

Bus to the center was fairly quick and our hotel, the Sheraton, was a 5 minute walk away from the bus station. We played the honeymoon card and got a slight bump up in our room. I imagine we will be playing that card a few times. After dumping our bags we decided to head for some linner(lunch+dinner). The hotel recommended an Italian called paganini in the heart of the old city which we were told was on a different island. At first we thought this would be miles away but it was very close. It seems that Stockholm is composed of many many different islands.

We got a little lost navigating the typical old and narrow cobbled roads one would find anywhere in Europe but eventually we found it. It smelled great from the outside, which is always a good sign. Inside was very stereotypical Italian with a rustic bar facade hiding the open kitchen and the table clothes in red and white checks.

It was busy but luckily there was one last table for two left. Fiona, not feeling that hungry, had a tomato mozzarella salad that she described as the best mozarella she had ever tasted. I on the other hand was very hungry and ordered pasta in a creamy chicken and mushroom sauce. For drinks there was really only one option.....

Tasty and well fed we returned to the hotel for a well earned rest.

The next day was just as nice as the last. We decided to go out on a morning run around the old city and down to City hall. Running conditions were perfect, sunny with a little breeze. In high tech fashion below our run recording below (Fiona nearly got a P.B)

The rest of the day involved a lot of walking. Started by heading through the old town for Breakfast. Fiona had a traditional cinnamon bun which smelled revolting but Fiona liked it. After breakfast we headed to a viewpoint recommended by the hotel map which was pretty cool. This is definately the first capital city we have been to where there were no skyscrappers. A nice change and continuing the high tech theme here is the panaroma I took

Heading back through the old town I spotted an obelisk which I jokingly pointed out to Fiona was not a surprise as they are everywhere in Europe. Deciding to go up to get the stereotypical tourist picture of it and trick Fiona to pose a certain way  we ended up discovering it was in fact next to the Royal Palace. We decided to head in and check it out. The jewels were not as big as the Tower of London but the palace itself was interesting. Also had free wifi which was useful to check the Celtic score. Wish I hadn't bothered...

When we finished the palace we left to hear music playing. It was Sweden's answer to the Horse guards parade which must have been doing a practice. Spot the horse with the drums.

Some more walking resulted in us finding the nights linner location. Polpette. A decent pizzeria right round the corner of the hotel. Was very good and yes we chose an appropriate drink for the occasion.

After dinner we decided to check out some more shops before getting some Swedish ice cream from a shop we spotted earlier in the day that were making their own cones. Was cool (I ask for no forgiveness for the pun). I had Salted caramel ice cream and a raspberry sorbet but I wish I had just got the salted caramel. Was delicious. Fiona had Blueberry cheesecake and raspberry sorbet and judging from the silence over the next 10 minutes she must have enjoyed it.

With that our exploring had finished. Time for an early night ready for more travels. Before turning in we found that we had covered 11.1 miles walking and plus the run gave a total of 14.5 miles. Not bad!
